What Causes Half-consciousness And Heart Beat Sensation In The Ear And Head?

default
Posted on Wed, 6 Apr 2016
Question: Let me tell u about what i am feeling is hard task to explain in any language.hope you can guess from this.
Its like i am half consious and half faint.feeling heartbeat in chest, ear and head at the same time.can hear the things but cant analyze if i wish to.its like wave passing through my head every 10 seconds which is giving me this sensation.i am sure i am laking 80% of my concentration in everthing i hear,i see and i do.
Its like i am about to faint.i have been feeling 1 such heartbeat and wave in mind once in every 10 seconds which takes away all the alertness of my mind with it.
This is happening 4 to 5 times in a month amd may last for 1-4 hours but this time its happening for 8 hours now.
I have got my ECG done 3 days prior and it was normal.
What its supposed to be?
Please elaborate in detail.

Brief Answer:
Your heart is perfectly healthy and strong :)

Detailed Answer:
Hello I am Dr. Mody and I would be addressing your concern.
I went through all history my you have provided .
Now as you wanted a cardiologist opinion for the symptoms you face , I would like to help you understand things in a better perspective.
So considering that your age is just 24 years it's extremely rare to have any significant cardiac problem at this age .
The ecg will not help in any diagnosis because you any are NOT going to have an heart attack .

I would suggest that you get a 2 D Echo cardiography once to rule out mitral valve prolapse ( a common condition which is mild and can cause palpitation, and panic like attacks ) , also we may rule out all congenital heart problems with an echocardiography , also considering that you are having palpitation a 24 hour holter which records the ecg while you perform your daily activity will rule out any rare cardiac issues causing any rhythm disturbance.

But here i strongly feel that the above tests will be normal because by your symptoms I don't feel that heart is at any fault and I would reassure you again that your heart is strong and nothing is going to happen there
Now my observations as a clinician ,
The symptoms you are so describing do not relate to any cardiac event . Considering your age , all the symptoms to are facing points towards endogenous depress, it's not a major problem and can be easily treated with medicine and some counselling for helping you resolve your internal conflicts .
It's because the mind stays fixed to our body normal self , you may perceive even normal heart beats as palpitation
I would strongly suggest that keep busy with work or whatever you like and is your passion , some talking your your friends and a doctor s counselling would work magic .
Let me know if any help needed ever , as I am just on the other side .

As far as depression is concerned,I was on medicine and now i am over it.
What are the chances of palpitation and rhythm disturbance?
Where can i get 24 hour holter and 2D echocardio done and how long do these test take
?

Brief Answer:
Do go through the detailed answer below :)

Detailed Answer:
Hello , Welcome back to HCM
I would enlist my observations to be precise .

1) There is still a far chance that the palpitation you feel is a subjective phenomenon, it's just normal heart beats .
When you are anxious or tense for any reason there is more secretion of hormones like Cortisol and importantly Adrenaline in the blood , this will temporarily increase your blood pressure and heart rate resulting in palpitation .

2) Considering you stay near baroda . 2D-Echo Cardiography is like songraphy of the heart And can be done in 20 mins . 24 hour Holter is a machine they will attach to your body you have to go home perform all your daily activities and next day they will remove the machine and evaluate your ECG over last 24 hours to pick up any disturbance in rhythm.
If you happen to come to XXXXXXX , I can arrange things for you .

3) If you were on medication for depression and have suddenly stopped all the symptoms you have described can occur as part of withdrawal. So have a talk with your psychiatrist about the same .

Lastly I still feel there is rebound depression. Please don't fight against it and rather seek support .

Let me know if anything needed .
