What Causes Fatigue, depression And Appetite Loss After Taking Lupron Shot?

default
Posted on Tue, 8 Apr 2014
Question: My husband had a 4 month Lupron depot shot one month and 5 days ago. The past few days have not been good...extreme tiredness, dopey feeling, depression, sleeplessness, loss of appetite and taste, weakness and no desire to do anything. Is this going to last for the next three months? Is there an antidote one can take? He can't even manage to get to a doctor's appointment. Please give some suggestions.

Brief Answer: needs to see his doctor. Detailed Answer: Dear Ma'm, HI! though you have not mentioned why was your husband given Lupron depot, but the most common indication is prostate cancer. when ever this depot is injected, there is initial rise in testosterone levels and then a fall. so falling testosterone levels can be responsible for his symptoms. in such case it is only symptomatic management and with passing time he will learn to live with them. but then there can be serious complications as well, like pituitary apoplexy, allergic reactions, symptoms due to metastasis, so the patient needs to be reviewed physically. i would suggest seek your doctors appointment and let him review the case. Regards!

Are these symptoms going to last for the next three months? He is so weak and tired that he can't maneuver so will this last only for a little while and then get better? He has been seeing his regular doctor and his kidney doctor and had blood tests both places for the past three weeks. They have been dealing with the edema in his legs.

Brief Answer: gradually decrease. Detailed Answer: Dear ma'm, Hi! definitely they will decrease over time. it won't last for the entire 4 months, it will be decreasing over time definitely. as i told you previously as well, if it is only drug side effect, definitely it will be reducing trend. but if there is some new complication then that needs to be attended individually. Regards!
