What Causes Excessive Sweating After Morphine Pump Implantation?
Question: I have a med pump implant for chronic pain that pumps .5mg of morphine a day. I get these really bad night sweats and day sweats. I just had an episode that comes from nowhere where I get extremely hot and perspire followed by weakness and light headiness.

The possible explanation of episodes of sweating (diaphoresis ) with the use of Morphine pump implantation is development of tolerance to morphine
and consequent withdrawal symptoms which reflect, in part, overactivity of particular neurons in the part of brain known as LC(locus coeruleus).
Tolerance to opioids leads to the need for increasing amounts of drugs to sustain the desired pain relieving effects—as well as to avoid the discomfort of withdrawal (as it is probably happening in your case).
Titrating the morphine dose delivery should be first tried-i.e you may need little more additional dose per day say 1.25 mg as aliquot, as it will be difficult to other modes of analgesic as you are chronically exposed to Opioid.
You can however discuss with your doctor about the possibility of a different drug, also.
Non-pharmacologic treatments which can help in relieving pain include acupuncture which is known to act well in individual cases.
