What Causes Elevated Sugar Levels?
Question: My name is Munish .. My age is 36 yrs. Last week street dog has bite me and doctor has suggest me tetnus and Rabipur injection . i have take two dose of rabipur injection and also tetnus injection.but today my parents has done the sugar level for both fasting and sugar pp level and i am also done these testes . surprisingly my sugar level of fasting is 137 and sugar level of PP is 246

Your blood sugar levels both Fasting & Post-prandial are in diabetic range.
Which confirm the diagnosis of diabetes.
In such newly diagnosed cases I may suggest-
- Detailed clinical examination. Estimation of Body Mass Index (BMI).
- Diet.
- Exercise.
- Medicines.
- Investigations.
Diet:
- Usually we recommend 1800 kcal diet for diabetic male patient, though exact calories can be suggested depending upon BMI.
- Avoid sugar in any form.
- Consult near by dietitian who can plan diet considering your BMI, food habits.
Exercise:
- Usually I recommend at least 150 min of moderate degree physical activity per week.
- Start exercise gradually.
- Brisk walking, yoga can be preferred for long term.
Medications:
- Considering your age and history of diabetes in parents (interpretation based as your parents also underwent blood sugar test) there is most likely possibility of Type 2 Diabetes in your case, though it needs to be confirmed depending upon detailed clinical examination.
- Considering diagnosis of Type 2 Diabetes, I may suggest to start Tablet containing Metformin 500 mg once a day with gradual increase to 1500 to 2000 mg per day in divided doses by the end of 10 to 15 days according to tolerance.
- Metformin is a first-line drug in the treatment of Type 2 diabetes, it decreases insulin resistance (body insulin requirement) which is the basic pathology of Type 2 diabetes.
- Medicines need to be modified depending upon periodic blood sugar test results.
Investigations:
I may suggest following blood tests-
- Complete Blood count.
- Renal function test.
- Liver Function Test.
- Urine Examination.
- HbA1c.
- Complete Lipid profile.
Complete the Anti-rabies vaccination as scheduled.

Family has no diabetic history.. Parents report shows normal report means father sugar fasting 102 and sugar Pp is with in range.. My sugar report is also in normal in previous six month.. Doctor can it possible this is due to tetanus or rabipur injections that we taking from last week.. Please suggest may this this reasons blood sugar level increases.
