What Causes Elevated Liver Enzymes?

Question: My liver enzymes are ast 217 and alt 141. Everything else if fine. My doctor said I will need an unltrasound to check. I have been on Depakote for quite some time for Bipolar disorder. In the meantime, I am very scared.

What ever medicine we take, it metabolize in liver. In that case, getting deranged liver function test is normal. Depokote contains valproate and it effects on liver function. Liver has property to regenerate and if you leave this drugs or shift to another mood stabilizer, your liver enzymes would come to normal level in one or two weeks. There is nothing harm in getting USG done. That would help you to rule out any serious pathology.
