Brief Answer:
Tinnitus and hearing loss.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for contacting HCM with your medical question.

I am not sure what you mean by your ear flickers. Does this mean that the ear hears some funny sounds like the sound a radio makes as it tries to tune to a station? If this is happening then you may have ear damage possibly from Meniere's disease. This is a disease where the inner ear has been damaged from an unknown cause. It results in having hearing loss tinnitus or ringing in the ears and dizziness. The funny sounds can last from a few days to several weeks. The hearing loss unfortunately is permanent as well as the tinnitus.

The painful ear may be more related to wax in your ear canal putting pressure on the tiny and sensitive nerves in your ear canal. This can be corrected by a doctor by irrigating or washing out the wax. Once the wax is removed the pain and hearing should all improve.

For either of these conditions I recommend you seek medical attention by your primary care doctor or and ear nose and throat specialist. They can then look in your ear and tell if it is wax build up or Meniere's disease.

For your last enquiry you are wondering what is causing you to hear your heart beat when you plug your ears with your finger. This is easily explained by what we can air conduction and bone conduction. When your ears are open to air the ear drum vibrates to the sound waves from the air. When you plug your ears with your fingers then the sound waves are not transmitted through the air but through the bones in your skull. Since your body is connected to these bones your heart beat is transmitted along the bones. Hence you can hear the sound of blood rushing through your arteries as well as hear your own heart beat.

When I say flickering I actually mean fluttering, put your lips together and make a motor sound, that feeling not the sound but feeling is what I get when people speak at certain frequencies, I've been to the doc and menieres was ruled out

Brief Answer:
Meniere's is the cause.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for returning with your answer. I speak from one who has Meniere's and this is exactly what happens. The Flutter that you hear is the ear nerves trying to reconnect. Meniere's is a disease or syndrome that is made by history and there are no tests to actually perform that confirms the diagnosis of Meniere's. So in my strong opinion and in my experience you are suffering from Meniere's

I hope this answers your question.

How can one treat it at home? What works for you? I cringe when I answer my phone becasue I can feel everything they are saying on the opposite ear, the tinnitus is manageable its this pulsating and fluttering that has got me on edge a little
