What Causes Difficulty In Walking?

default
Posted on Thu, 24 Sep 2015
Question: I am having difficulty walking for any length of time. I have always been a walker and about 6 months ago I got Planters Fascistic(not sure that is spelled right) and had physical therapy for 3 months. After that walking was difficult and my hips started hurting. I went to the doctor and she gave me a cortisone shot thinking it is bursitis but it didn't help. Pain has gotten worse, I can't sleep on my side at all. I wake up at night with aching painful legs from my hip to ankle. It doesn't seem that should have to just except this at age 63, it doesn't feel right. What do I do?

Brief Answer:
2 causes. Needs 3 tests

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I am Dr Mittal.
I have read your message.
I think I can help you.
From the query, I have surmised the follows'
1. the pain is in full leg.
2. it increases on walking.
3. there is a radiculopathy pain.
I will start by saying that I don't believe that the symptoms of the query are due to orthopaedic cause.
The symptoms of the query are quite suggestive of 2 possible causes.
1. Nerve issue due to compression at the spine. You will need to test with a MRI LS spine and nerve conduction study.
2. a vascular pathology. I would suggest a Doppler study of the lower limbs for this.
The treatment of the 2 conditions is very similar. I think I would therefore like to see the reports before suggesting medicines.
I have tried to make it as simple as possible. I hope that the information contained in this message will be able to help you find the best solution for your problem. Best of luck. Dr Mittal
