What Causes Diarrhea, Blood In Stools And Nausea With Weight Loss?

default
Posted on Tue, 10 Jun 2014
Question: I started a weight loss program over a year ago and have been successful in losing around 70 lbs. I have been eating much healthier and reduced caffeine to a minimum and no alcohol. Sometime just prior to December of 2013 I started noticing that after every meal I would need to have a bowel movement which was always normal consistency. Early January I had a bout with food poisoning from bad fish at a local restaurant that had me weak and flu-like for 3 days and lightly nauseous for a little over a week. I felt fine afterwards but noticed more gassy movements and explosive movements which were borderline diarrhea. Recently I have been eliminating gluten and experimenting with different foods but still feel spastic after a meal and sometimes have not been able to hold it and light soil my underwear. It feels like a hemmorhoid at times because I have days that I go evacuate so often and once I had small amount of bright blood on TP. I have added Kefir and Inflamx to my diet and drinking more water but have not seen improvements.

Brief Answer:
Hello

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for the query.
I understand your concern.
You have been symptomatic for more than 5 months now.
This definitely warrant's further evaluation more that self medications.
You need to undergo basic evaluation like a complete blood count, ESR, Stool examination (routine), thyroid function test.
Further evaluation would be to do a colonoscopy.
Thinking about coeliac and reducing gluten in diet at your age is not warranted.
The above mentioned test would help in determining the nature of further treatment.
Also avoiding milk and milk products will help too.
Can continue butter milk and curd if you like.
Also if you are taking any supplements or alternative medications for weight loss worthwhile stopping them too.
Also it is important to alley anxiety as it itself can worsen your symptoms.
Hope this answers your query.
Best wishes.
Wish you a speedy recovery.
