What Causes Delay In Periods And Dizziness With Low Back Pain?

default
Posted on Thu, 30 Oct 2014
Question: Hi. I am normally a regular 28 day cycle. I have two children first vaginal delivery and second was emergency c section. I went on birth control after the second until about 6 months ago because relief from it helped with a herniated stomach/esophagus. The last two months, my cycle has been 1-3 days late but nothing too crazy, but with harsher than normal cramps. This time, my cycle is 7 days late. I did not think I was pregnant but took a test anyway and both came back negative. Other than that, I have had my normal pre menstrual cycle cramping. My body feels like its preparing for it to come, but then it doesn't. I also have some nagging feelings in my right breast that emits to my under arm, but it has alleviated finally some after a week. I had a mammogram done regarding this nagging sensation and ultra sound in my breast several months ago and all came back clear. Of course, at that time my cycle was regular. Today I am experiencing extreme dizziness, low appetite and low back pain, but still no cycle. I have lost about 10-12 lbs in the last 3 months due to improved eating habits and consistent working out. I really can't figure out the problem or why I am so late. All my other pregnancies showed a positive HPT right away, so I don't think that's it. Please help.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Welcome to Healthcaremagic!

I read carefully your query and understand your concern about this situation.

So your periods are 7 days late.
There are 2 options :
1) You are pregnant.
In this case probably when you took the home pregnancy tests it was too early to detect the pregnancy or they were falls negative.
Usually home pregnancy tests are recommended to do 1 week after the date when your periods were supposed to come.
I suggest to run another home pregnancy test these days and if it is still negative you can repeat it after 3-4 days.If it is still negative and your periods aren't coming yet ,you can run a blood test to exclude definitely a possible pregnancy.

2) The second option is that you are not pregnant and your periods are just late.
There are many possible factors that can influence menstrual cycle. Most common causes are :Stress and anxiety (if you are experiencing emotional stress lately) ,physical effort (if you are exercising a lot lately) , significant weight change (weight gain or weight loss ) etc.
The fact that you are exercising consistently and you have lost weight might be the causes of this delay.

If you are not pregnant and your periods don't come this month and the other then you may consider consulting a physician and get examined. The doctor may check your thyroid function or run an pelvic ultrasound to exclude common disorders that can cause delayed periods like Hypothyroidism ,Hormone Imbalance etc.

Don't need to worry right now.Sometimes it may happen to have a delayed period.

Hope it helps.
