What Causes Delay In Period Despite Having Negative UPT?

default
Posted on Thu, 26 Mar 2015
Question: Hello...
I've missed my period for about three days now....I took a urine pregnancy test and it was negative and I did a serum test yesterday which also turned out negative. Also my hb was very low(9.9) yesterday. Could I be pregnant or my missed period could be as a result of my low hb?

Brief Answer:
wait for a week for periods

Detailed Answer:
Hello fear, I understand your health concerns.
As the pregnancy test is negative there is nothing to worry and all you need is to wait for periods for at least a week.
Your hemoglobin is on lower side but not very low to cause problems in menstruation so keep taking iron tablets but this is not related to periods.
Most common physiological reason for delay in periods are -
- stress which can be professional or domestic
- acute diarrhea or fever
- missing meals over a long duration
- new exercise schedule
And there can be some pathology in pelvic organs and most common reason is ovarian cyst.
For that ultrasound will be needed but that is when it becomes a recurrent problem.
Right now just wait for a week for periods.
I hope I have answered your query properly.
Wish you the best of health

Do you think there is still a possibility for pregnancy? Because I took the urine test a day after my missed period and did the serum test two days after missing the period. Also, how accurate can a blood pregnancy test be and how early can it be done?

Brief Answer:
both are accurate

Detailed Answer:
Both the tests are quite accurate and are positive even if done on the day of expected periods if pregnancy is there.
Blood test is almost 100% accurate.
