What Causes Dark Pigmentation Mark Running From Left Eyebrow To Side Of Eye?

default
Posted on Fri, 6 Jun 2014
Question: I am 30 year old male. I have dark mark/pigmentation running from over my left eyebrow(on the forehead) to the side of my eye. Similar pigmentation exists on the bottom of my front neck. I had seen a dermatologist. He suggested DCL Multi Action Penta Peel pads and use it thrice a week. Although when I use it, I feel some itching(may be due to the acids) when I apply it close to the eye and mark darkens further till the morning. But I must admit that I had left the acid on the face for more than recommended 3-5 minutes. Previously I had used XXXXXXX Pigmentation reducer gel and XXXXXXX Night Cream. Use them even now sometimes. Some people online suggest Kojic Acid based creams like Kojivit and some suggest Hydroquinone based creams(which due to side effects sounds scary). Also should I go for glycolic peel or use glycolic peel pads at home ? I do apply a sunscreen - Suncote Gel SPF 30 or Lotus Herbals Matte Finish - SPF 40 in the morning. Kindly suggest should I continue with the Penta Peel or should I use other creams or gels ? Is it safe to use say a Kojic Acid cream or XXXXXXX Pigmentation reducer gel with this Penta peel ?

Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for writing to us.
I have gone through the uploaded images. Your pigmentation seems to be deep and dark to respond to kojic acid or plain hydroquinone or XXXXXXX pigmentation reducer gel( contains glycolic acid) alone. As far as DCL multi action penta peels are concerned, I have never used the same. It is a combination peel, safe for home use. Basically any peel that is meant for use at home is mild and safe and hence sometimes in deep pigmentation may not give desirable result.
Now had I been your doctor, I would have initially started the basic treatment for pigmentation. As this treatment would help in reducing pigmentation and prime your skin for better results and efficacy of peels.
So I would advise that you start
1) an antioxidant like procyanathidin tranexemic acid combination daily( like tab pinodin TX, once daily)
2) Use a glycolic acid kojic acid combination cream once in a day(rejuglow gel/kojivit plus gel/demelan)
3) Use hydroquinone 4% tretinoin steroid based cream in night( lumacip plus or melacare forte).
Please use these creams in a small amount. Usually a pea size amount is enough for full face. Vigorous rubbing or excess cream may irritate your skin making it red, itchy, scaly.

Use DCL peel pads just once in week as too much use with above prescribed products may irritate skin.

Use a glycolic acid based soap like glyahakoj soap or melawash face wash to clean face

You may follow these for two months to see if you notice any response, however if not much response is seen please consult your doctor to start tricholoroacetic acid peels( cosmo peels in kaya).

Also use a good sunscreen on daily basis( suncote and lotus can be continued).

So you may follow these suggestions and get back for follow up after a month.
Should there be any doubt, please write back.
Take care

Thanks for the reply. Are few of these prescription drugs ? Also lumacip plus/ melacare forte should be used for how long a period because it contains steroid. I had heard skin can create steroid dependency and these creams can thin the skin a lot if we overuse. Also should these creams be applied only to affected area or to whole face ?

Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for writing back.
All these medicines are available with leading chemists and can be procured easily.
Lumacip plus or melacare forte can be used safely for a period of two to three months. Steroid dependency, side effects occur with prolong use (say more than six months ) and stronger steroids (like clobetasol ).
In cases of pigmentation, we safely prescribe triple combination creams for two to three months, so you can start using it without worrying about side effects.
I would advise you to use it full face, so that an even skin color is achieved. Only precaution from your side would be using it in a small quantity, just enough to cover face.
Hope this helped.
Take care
