What Causes Constipation In A Type 2 Diabetic Patient?

default
Posted on Mon, 23 Mar 2015
Question: Dear doctor.

Hope you are well.

I am 35 years of age.

Overweight and have type 2 diabetes.

For the last 2-3 years i have been having issues emptying my bowels.

I have a feeling that i am not emptying my bowels properly.

I do run my own business and am pretty stressed at times during the year.

I also suffer from bouts of anxitey and panic attacks.

Although these are well controlled now.

What could this be?

The shape of my stools are normal and the colour is as it should be (light to dark brown).

I dont get bloating or any pain or sudden urges to go.

I hope you can assure me??

Thanks in advance.

Brief Answer:
Hello do not worry

Detailed Answer:
,
Thank you for the query.
I understand your concern.
Well likely you have some slow transit constipation.
Could be related to your diabetes also partially.
Need to try following things
1 Take high fiber diet with lot of salads, sprouts
2 drink plenty of water
3 regular walk or jog will help you to improve bowel movements
4 reduce your stress and anxiety which has direct relation to bowel habits
5 ensure proper eating and sleeping habits
Also some basic testing like sugar, thyroid function test, Stools occult blood examination for three samples will help you
Sugar control is also of prime importance as uncontrolled sugars are known to affect bowel movements
Hope this answers your query
Wish you a speedy recovery
Best wishes
