What Causes Chronic Pain In The Legs?
Question: Hello,
My mom aged 55 (weight 66 Kgs, height 5 feet 2 inches) is suffering from chronic pain in legs since almost an year now. We consulted an Orthopedician and he suggested her to take calcium supplements. She has been taking them for around 3-4 months now though not that regularly. But the pain hasn't decreased much.
We consulted an Endocrinologist and when tested the TSH level came out to be higher than the normal level. He has given tablets to normalize the thyroid level.
I am writing this to you for a second opinion and to get better suggestions if there are any.
I am attaching her medical reports and her medical prescriptions here with. Please let me know if any further details are required.

Regarding to EMG procedure-
Test usually takes 20-30 minutes and is not painful.
Metal disc plates (electrodes) are placed on the skin over nerves and muscles, mild electrical stimulation is given and the response is recorded.
Usually two nerves in upper limbs and two nerves in lower limbs are tested.
It may be necessary to test more nerves depending on the type of neurological disease.
Cost of procedure is approx. Rs 2500 for two limbs and 4500 for four limbs (however it varies from different laboratories and diagnostic centers, so exact rate may differ).
The electrolytes (serum Magnesium, Potassium, Sodium, Calcium) are checked in blood tests.
To find the cause of the low Hemoglobin you should check the iron profile and if it is low, iron supplements may be needed.
The TSH level should be checked 6 weeks after starting the treatment with Levothyroxine (50 mcg daily I would suggest in this case).
There are no home remedies to normalize the TSH.

Which diagnostic center do you suggest in XXXXXXX to get the EMG test done? Are there diagnostic centers accredited or associated with Healthcaremagic.com?

Regarding iron level, it is a specific test not included in the full blood count you attached.
So you have to bring her again for another blood sample. After 6 weeks of treatment with thyronorm ( levothyroxine) when she will check the TSH may check the iron too. Underactive thyroid does not cause low Hemoglobin, they are two different pathologies not related to each other.
Continue for 6 weeks with 42.5 mcg of thyronorm ( one day 25 and one day 50 mcg) that she has been taking and chage the dose after the TSH level is checked. If it persists high, than raise it to 50 mcg.
