What Causes Chronic Nausea, Occasional Vomiting, And Bouts Of Diarrhea And Constipation?

default
Posted on Mon, 22 Jun 2015
Question: I am 21/fem. For three months I have been dealing with chronic nausea, occasional vomiting, and bouts of both diarrhea and constipation. There is usually bile in my vomit. And sometimes I get the urge to puke even on an empty stomach. I feel best on an empty stomach. So I avoid eating, and have lot weight doing so. The nausea and pain make me miserable. So I'd rather not eat. No relief from eating or a bm. I often get pain just above me belly button. It doesn't radiate. Nothing in particular seems to trigger the nausea and vomitting. Tums help sometimes.

Brief Answer:
different possible causes

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

There are different possible causes for persistent nausea.

Since it has been ongoing for 3 months, your doctor may need to consider assessment with blood tests and imaging after a general and abdominal examination.

Some of the different causes are: (1) reflux
(2) hepatitis - infection/inflammation of the liver, other infections as well
(3)cholecystitis-inflammation of the gall bladder
(4)side effect of medication
(5) high calcium levels
(6)kidney disease
(7)vertigo
(8)alcohol
(9)psychological

If you have a history of reflux then the use of reflux medication may help if used consistently. No further investigation would be needed.
If the tums helps then it is possible it is only reflux and using other more effective reflux medication may help eg nexium, protonix, prevacid, prilosec

These are better but can take up to 5 days for full effect.

If it is not reflux then:
Blood tests such as complete blood count (checks for infection), calcium , liver function tests and kidney tests (creatinine and BUN) may also be needed.

Medications such as pepto bismol or dramamine may help
I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
