What Causes Chills, Fever And Difficulty Breathing Post Miscarriage?

default
Posted on Thu, 4 Jun 2015
Question: Hi, I found out I had miscarriage a few weeks ago at my 12 week appointment, but that I had miscarried very early on, they gave me progesterone since I had not started my period. Still no period. But, I am having issues with body temperature, I had a family issue and got so mad I spiked a 102.5 fever that went away as I calmed down, and the slightest chill will make me so cold I shake. A few times I have woke up a night shaking so hard that breathing is difficult and was told by family they could hear me trying to breath in the next room, when I woke up, I would grab an extra blanket and be completely fine once I warmed up. I have loved it cold since I was a kid. Now it takes 2 comforters and an afgan to keep it from happening. But when I am awake too, walking into a cool room will do the same. I am seeing someone this week about it, but was curious on what you think it is. Thanks

Brief Answer:
You have developed infection which needs emergency care

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for your query.

I have read you query and I understand your concerns about body temperature.

Following is my reply:

1) Since you had miscarriage which is not removed, it could be a source of infection. These symptoms are suggestive of infection in the body.

2) You have developed infection ( probably from miscarriage) and that is the reason which is causing such variation in temperature and breathing pattern.

3) You need to get the fetus removed as progesterone tablets you are taking wont help in removing the fetus.

4) I suggest you should not wait more time. Please go to ER if possible and get examined for source of infection and speed up abortion process with different medicines or D&C.

I hope I answered you query and addressed your concerns.

Let me know if you wish to ask any further questions. I will be glad to help you.

Regards,
Dr. Soumya
