Posted on Fri, 2 Dec 2016
Question: I had a root canal done end of August, and I keep getting a white bump in one are of my throat with inflammation on cheek and burning . I have acid reflux per ent cuz he put a camera down my throat. I never had this before the tooth. He didn't use a dental dam. Im scared its cancer. One dr. Said get a biopsy from an oral surgeon . Other dentist said its just a blocked saliva gland?

Brief Answer:
Does not look like to be due to dental treatment..

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

As per your complain in case if the white bump is recurring that is it comes and goes then it is not cancer as cancerous lumps does not regress and keep growing or stay in the same size but does not reduce in size or goes away...

In case if you have acid reflux then it can cause continuous irritation and lump in throat due to repeated chemical trauma to throat with acid causing inflammation of the mucosa and causing pain..

I would like to clarify a few more points for better guidence..
1.Does the lump comes and goes or it it persistent since it occurred?
2.Do you have any sores on cheek on the side where it burns?
3.Do you chew tobacco along with smoking?
4.Do you experience dry mouth?
5. Do you have any medical problems?
6.Have you tried any medications for the present symptoms?

Please revert back with answers..

Regards..

Detailed below..

Detailed Answer:
Hi..

It is not cancerous and looks like mucous cyst also known as Mucocele that is completely a harmless lump so do not worry..

Secondly swelling over the cheek can be due to cheek biting..

Dry mouth can be a cause for soreness and inflammation of mucosa..
It can also occur due to smoking causing dryness in mouth..

You can very much take antibiotics and do not get worried..

For swelling on cheek you can do cool compresses or suck ice..
For dry mouth and throat irritation first of all stop smoking..
You can chew flavoured sugar free chewing gum to stimulate saliva flow and drink plenty of water..
Gargle with specialised mouthwash like biotene..
