Brief Answer:
This is not due to any serious illness like AIDS.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome to Healthcare Magic!

The symptoms that you have described are not due to any serious illness but due to alcohol withdrawal. Since you are a heavy drinker and must have been drinking regularly for quite some time, your body has got used to functioning in the presence of alcohol. After drinking in the evening, you feel good for some time as the alcohol content in the blood is sufficient. But by the morning, the alcohol level falls and your body finds it difficult to function, leading to all kinds of symptoms. Supposing you were to take alcohol in the morning as well, the symptoms would go away, but again appear after a few hours. However, increasing your alcohol intake is not the solution to this problem. You need to seriously cut down on your alcohol consumption and if possible, quit it completely till your body recovers.

For this, it is not absolutely necessary to get admitted in a hospital. But you should do it under medical supervision. Treatment is done in two phases. In the initial phase, detoxification is done where medicines are given to manage withdrawal symptoms which start after one quits. After the withdrawal phase is over, maintenance phase starts where the target is to keep the patient abstinent for as long as possible. Find any good psychiatrist in your vicinity and start treatment as soon as possible.

Do let me know in case you need any further help.

Best wishes.

Brief Answer:
Yes, it is possible.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Yes, it is possible for detoxification phase to be conducted without admission, in most of the cases. Admission is preferable but not mandatory except in special cases, like elderly patients, patients with poor physical health, patients with seizure disorders or patients for whom out-patient treatment has failed repeatedly.

A diagnosis of Alcohol dependence syndrome cannot be made just on the basis of presence of withdrawal symptoms and heavy drinking. A few other criteria are also needed. For example, development of tolerance, inability to cut down intake in spite of efforts to do so, giving up alternative pleasurable activities or interests for drinking and so on. In simple words, if alcohol has become an integral part of your life to such an extent that you no longer have control over your drinking, then you are indeed dependent on alcohol.

Best wishes.

Brief Answer:
Risk of seizures and delirium.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

If you stop your alcohol intake abruptly without any cover of medicines, there is a risk of going into severe withdrawal. In addition to the physical symptoms that you have already experienced, you can also have tremors, anxiety, insomnia and even seizures. There is also a risk of going into delirium. Complicated cases of alcohol withdrawal need admission and are serious. That is why, people trying to quit alcohol are always advised to do so under medical supervision. If one is insistent on not taking treatment then it will be safer to gradually taper off alcohol intake rather than quitting abruptly.

Best wishes.
