What Causes Bloating And Stomach Discomfort?

default
Posted on Mon, 19 May 2014
Question: I've been diagnosed with cirrhosis 10 years ago. I quit drinking for six years but started casual drinking 4 years ago. I've been experiencing bloating with some stomach dicomfort. My liver tests have been coming back normal. I also have pain in the middle of my back but my chiropractor says my backbone is fine. Also my stomach is growling all the time. It starts as soon as I start eating or drinking. I don't have diarrhea but weird formation of stools.

Brief Answer:
You need evaluation...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I understand your concern. Based on the details provided, this bloating and stomach discomfort may be related to indigestion / hyperacidity or due to an issue with liver and pancreas. I have noted that you have normal liver function tests. But before starting treatment I would like to review the liver structure and pancreatic functions. An ultrasound examination, serum amylase and lipase values will help us exclude liver and pancreas issues.

If those tests turn up normal, the symptoms may be secondary to cholecystectomy (gall bladder removal). The bile over secretions would irritate the gut leading to discomfort, bloating and weird stool formation. This can be addressed with dietary changes and medicines to sequestrate bile secretions.

I will suggest you to talk to the local gastroenterologist. He/she will know about the tests I spoke off.

Hope this helps you. Let me know if you need clarifications.

Regards
