What Causes A Knot/lump On Arm?

default
Posted on Thu, 3 Jul 2014
Question: Hello.. I noticed about 2 weeks ago a knot/lump on my right arm. If I lay my hand flat on a table,( where my muscle goes towards the inside of my arm) between the muscle and soft area is. Its not solid, hard but not soft. Its tender but not hurting either, if I touch it, however if I move my or twist that section of my arm, then my arm becomes very sore and it hurts around that area, it has gotten a little bigger in the last day or so.. Could I have pulled something or be a torn ligament?

Brief Answer:
Torn muscle likely.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
From your description the lump could be due to a pulled muscle. If there are no signs of infection in the area like hot and tender then there is no need to worry.
This will heal with rest hot fomentation and anti inflammatory medicines like ibuprofen. In case there is an increase in the size of swelling or a change in the skin color over the swelling then a hematoma needs to be ruled out after a direct examination.
Till then you can use a crepe bandage or an elastic brace to give rest to the arm.
I hope this answers your query.

Brief Answer:
3-4 weeks.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
I have seen the images attached. The lump could be due to an inflamed tendon in the area- tendonitis. If there is pain on twisting movement of the arm then tendonitis is more likely.
Usually it takes 3 weeks of complete rest for healing. If the symptoms are increasing then an MRI scan of the area is advisable for proper diagnosis.
Hope my answer is helpful.
