Question: my girlfriend's period is due is red with a bit of brown discharge for 5 days then the next day a bit of bright red bleeding then back to brown on the same day normal?

Well, once in a while it is normal to have a variant of a normal period.
So I think, this is her period, that is just scantier than usual.
It can be due to stress, anxiety, lack of sleep, travelling, exercising - simple changes in her body.

So, do not worry.

If she has not had unprotected sex, there is no risk of pregnancy.

Fingering does not affect that at all, unless she picked up an infection from that.
But she has no symptoms such as pain / tenderness / itching / redness / foul smelling discharge / pain and burning during urination , so infection is ruled out.
