Brief Answer: Detailed Detailed Answer: Hi, I read your query and I understand your concerns. Following is my reply: 1) The chance of normal delivery in twin pregnancy is high provided first baby of twin is in cephalic position ( head downwards). If first baby of twin is not in cephalic position, cesarean section is recommended. 2) Since the babies are small in twin pregnancy, it is possible that chances of normal delivery are high ( Between 60 to 80 percent ). 3) Risks for mother include high incidence of anemia and hypertension in all trimesters of pregnancy. 4) In 7 th month babies are very small and hence there is more chance of complications and need for NICU admission of child. 5) 8 th month relatively safe but same above chances exist. 6) 9th month is safe. In fact in twin pregnancies 36 week can be considered as term as rarely they go beyond 36 weeks and your wife might experience labor pains much before that. 7) I recommend let her take 2 doses of steroid injections at 28th week which will help in lung development of baby and give more survival chances to baby if preterm delivery takes place. Any gynecologist will explain about these injections and give you. 8) Follow up regularly with gynecologist to check blood pressure and signs of anemia. Let me know if you have anymore questions. Regards, Dr. Mahesh Koregol
