The Suggest Treatment For Post Inflammatory Hypopigmentation On Upper Lip

default
Posted on Mon, 7 Jul 2014
Question: The center of my middle upper lip has eroded due to frequent picking and rubbing over the past six years. There is hypopigmentation there and on my bottom lip too. All post inflammatory. Will the skin on the center of my upper lip ever grow back? It looks like I have a slight triangular cleft there and it has been affecting my self esteem for a while :( will the hypopigmentation ever go away either? What can I do to heal these issues? I am a dark skinned woman. I really hope there's a solution for me. I can provide pictures upon request.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

I went through your query and understood your concerns.

Post inflammatory hypopigmentation is due to damage the melanin producing cells. So treatment may involve the use of topical corticosteroids or tars (topical cream) many patients do get better result with this topical treatment, In case of not sufficient result with ointment we do have other modes of treatment like light or laser treatment, or surgical skin grafting.

If there is triangular gap with the hypopigmentation, most probably it needs trimming of edges and suturing.
Micro suturing do gives better result with minimal scar.
With good treatment you do get better result, not to worry.

Hope I answered your query.

Wish you a good health.

Regards
