Detailed description please find below, the drug is safe

Detailed Answer:
Hello, Welcome to Health Care Magic

Vibryd or Vilazodone is a newer drug developed for use in depression and anxiety. The drug has mechanism of action different than SSRIs.

- In most cases after prolonged use of drug, gradual dose reduction is advised. Doses when reduced by 20-25% every two weeks don't usually result in withdrawal symptoms. The dose reduction should be done over 6-8 weeks.

- Well this depends upon presenting symptoms. The drug has quick agonist action and this helps to result in improvement in first week of starting therapy. In long term the drug acts like conventional antidepressants.

- As per guidelines the drug should be continued for at least 6-12 months post remission of symptoms. After symptomatic improvement occurs the drug can be stopped safely.

- The drug has not much side effects and thus doesn't affect lifestyle.

- No negative effects on cognitive thinking even if used for long term. During initial weeks of starting treatment the drug might result in lack of focus but this doesn't remain for longer period.

- No need to go for drug holidays. The drug doesn't cause dependence.

- Commonly the drug is started with 10-20 mg per day which should be increased to 40 mg per day in about 10 days.

- No specific time frame is there.
