Question: Hello I have a question about a stitch abscess. I have had it for two and a half years and it has shown signs of healing but will not go away. I need to know the best way to cover this hideous set of holes and I was wondering if surgery to fix it would be considered elective or if I could get my medicaid to cover it

Brief Answer:
Old wound can be closed with a surgery.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Can you please attach a photo of this wound so I can give more precise answer?

2 and a half year old wound can not be closed with any medication. So surgery is the only way to fix it. The wound edges and stitches which were left under the skin should be removed and wound stitched again. This gives chances for wound closure.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.

Thanks for your answer I feared that surgery would be necessary. My question is if you know anything about how the surgery would be billed is it considered elective since I have lived with it for two and a half years or do you suppose an insurance will cover the procedure. I am not sure I can upload a picture. but there are three holes that open they scab over and open again.

Brief Answer:
Insurance might not cover it.

Detailed Answer:
Insurance might not cover it especially if it will be treated as a plastic surgery procedure. But you should rather discuss it with a surgeon who will be performing this procedure.

Thanks so much for your help I really appreciate it do you have any recommendations for concealment of the wound until a doctor can be seen? (hopefully soon) Perhaps a bandage or new skin?

Brief Answer:
Bandage is fine.

Detailed Answer:
If the wound is dry and do not produce any pus/liquids, can be left without covering it. Otherwise bandage is fine.
