Suggest Treatment For Warts And Lump On Penis

default
Posted on Mon, 27 Jul 2015
Question: Fiance has had her second abnormal PAP with HPV present. We have both been monogamous. How can I tell if I am passing it back and forth between us? As a male, with no obvious signs of warts, how do I tell if I am carrying it? There is a small lump on the penis but it has been there since childhood and does not look like any wart. Will the HPV virus go away, as I've read that it does in women within 2 years?

Is there anything I should be asking of my doctor (Family Medicine) when I have my next appointment or do I need to see a specialist of some sort? Again, no indication of any warts so unclear on why HPV present in fiancés PAP results but I want to have a piece of mind that I am not source.

Brief Answer:
Do consult a gynecologist

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. Abnormal pap smear result and presence of HPV are suggestive of HPV infection leading to cervical changes. HPV infection is a sexually transmitted disease and it is passed through unprotected intercourse. Males usually carry this virus, without any obvious symptoms, especially the type of HPV virus, which causes abnormal pap smear in females.
The ones which cause genital warts are of different types and do not generally cause cervical changes in females.
The lesion on your penis, of present from childhood, is unlikely to be wart, however you should get it checked.
Your fiance has shown repeated abnormal pap smear, because sometimes HPV infection is not completely eradicated from the body .
I would suggest her to consult an OBGYN specialist and get a colposcopy done to rule out cervical cancer and if negative, then should get pap smear and HPV testing every6 monthly. You both should preferably use condom till the time of follow up.
Hope you found the answer helpful. Please do get back for further queries.
Wishing you good health.
