Suggest Treatment For Upper Respiratory Tract Infection

default
Posted on Fri, 10 Oct 2014
Question: Hi. Haven't felt good for a couple of days. Thought it was sinus infection. Started Cipro today. However now the left side of my face in front of ear is extremely sore. Ear aches. Throat on that side hurts and headache. Chills too. I am 62 and have never had mumps. I was in XXXXXXX OH on 9/4 and there is a mumps outbreak there. This feels different than any sinus infection I have ever had. Will probably see a Dr. tomorrow.

Brief Answer:
upper respiratory tract infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for asking.
I am Dr. Prakash HM and I will be answering your query.

Looking at the symptoms, my opinion is as follows:
1. It is not mumps. It presents with a swelling involving glands and there is no swelling. You would also be having high grade fever.
2. It looks like an upper respiratory tract infection. Still sinus is yet to start completely.
3. Eustachian tube block due to increased secretion is causing ear pain and post nasal drip, the sore throat.
4. Take steam inhalation twice a day along with salt water gargling.
5. Take paracetamol or any Nsaids for pain.

Continue antibiotics. You will recover within a day. Finish the course of antibiotics.

Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
