Suggest Treatment For Symptoms Of Paranoid Schizophrenia

default
Posted on Thu, 4 Aug 2016
Question: What could cause this type of paranoia? Things such as believing someone if trying to influence something about you when talking to them like mind control. Considering your parent abused you although you don’t have a clear memory of that. Suspicious and conspiracy ordinated. Sometimes believing things are happening because of mind control from individuals. Excessive social anxiety in bouts, think people are looking at you when they aren’t.

Detailed Answer:
Hello, and thanks for your question.

What you are describing is most likely caused by either a delusional disorder or by paranoid schizophrenia. These are both characterized by delusional beliefs about things like mind control and people watching you. Although these are serious and very troubling symptoms, there are good treatments for it. Antipsychotics such as Risperdal or Zyprexa are highly effective and can help soften delusions so that the person can function again.

Thanks for your reply. The symtpoms come and go and can be strong if drinking alcohol. It doesn't happen all of the time. Could it be linked to OCD or something like that?

Detailed Answer:
Alcohol cannot cause psychosis. Alcohol can worsen mood, but paranoia is an independent symptom.

I don't hear voices or anything like that, and I'm aware of the paranoia partly, although it's hard to ignore at times.

Detailed Answer:
You do not need to hear voices to be psychotic. Paranoia by itself is enough of a concerning symptom to warrant treatment with an antipsychotic.
