Suggest Treatment For Symptoms Of Hypoglycemia

default
Posted on Fri, 15 Jul 2016
Question: i have been getting lightheaded, dizzy, shaky between breakfast and lunch that usually went away after eating something. I have now had a few episodes where it lasted all day, even though i ate something. I bought a glucose monitor because i thought that it could be hypoglycemia. My fasting glucose number was 107. Two hours after breakfast, which consisted of eggs, my level was 105. Yesterday afternoon in the mid afternoon, when i was feeling good, my level was 99. Do i have a problem? can the dizziness and all day episode have to do with the thyroid?

Brief Answer:
Probably a neurological problem.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!
By the symptoms you prescribed it looks like hypoglycemia but it is ruled out by the levels of glucose you have checked.
You must monitor your blood pressure during these episodes, the temperature , check your thyroid function (TSH,Ft4 and FT3) and need to see a neurologist.
It looks like a neurological problem , anyway when you see him take the result of the thyroid with you.
You would have mentioned if you are taking any medication lately or if you just have a special diagnosis.
Hope the information will help and do not hesitate to ask if you have still queries.
Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta

Brief Answer:
Hello again.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again,
Prediabetes is manifested with glucose levels;
-110-125 mg/dl fasting in the morning, or
-126-200 mg/ dl 2 hours after food.
Glucose levels over these values is called Diabetes.
Regarding to possible neurological diagnosis that are manifested with the above mentioned symptoms at your age, are many from degenerative nerve diseases to brain tumors.
The neurological examination is very important to decide if there is worthy to do further exams such as CT scan ect.
Hyperthyroidism is manifested with tremor, sweating, high heart rate, weight loss ect. But in these cases the symptoms are persistent and not episodic as in your case. Anyway, thyroid hormones are recommended to be done in these cases.
Hope i was helpful.
