Suggest Treatment For Swelling In Groin Area After Unprotected Sex

default
Posted on Mon, 27 Jul 2015
Question: I had unprotected sex approx 4 weeks ago, noticed that my crotch was feeling a little weird but put it down to shaving rash ( i hadnt shaved underneath for a while previously). Since then the whole area has swollen, like im turned on even though I'm not, and the opening to my vagina is almost a little inside out. I was also getting milky discharge. So I googled the symptoms and the universal answer was bacterial infection. Despite not having had thrush before I took caneston without first seeing a dr. Pessary and Cream. I inserted the pessary last night and now (24hrs later) my discharge has turned pink as though Im having a mild bleed. I am on day 13 of my cycle (according to my pill packet) so i shouldn't be bleeding.

Is thrush not the same as a bacterial infection?
was caneston the wrong solution?
how long should i expect the bleeding to continue?
what are the alternative potential causes for these symptoms that caneston will not have cured?

Brief Answer:
It can be bacterial vaginosis associated with yeast infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for asking HCM.

I have gone through your query. Your problem can be due bacterial vaginosis and associated yeast infection. Thrush is different from bacterial infection. It is fungal (yeast) infection. A swab test will be helpful to rule out this. It is better to run urine test for STDs like chlamydia and gonorrhoea also.

For such condition I would suggest taking vaginal suppositories with combination of clindamycin and clotrimazole. Avoid soaps and irritants to wash the area as it may irritate more. You can use saline or warm water. You can also use intimate wash regularly to normalize vaginal bacterial flora and PH.

Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
