Suggest Treatment For Swallowing Issues While Taking Omeprazole
Question: I have been taking Omeprazole Magnesium for a few years. I have had my esophagus stretched twice because I was having swallowing issues. Since I have been taking the Omeprazole Magnesium I have not had any swallowing episodes. I take one each morning but am concerned about what side effects might start. Thank you, XXXX

Thanks for writing to Health Care Magic, I am Dr Muhammd Ahmad, I have closely read your question and I understand your concerns, I will hereby guide you regarding your health related problem.
This combination is quite a safe one to use for long term treatment few minor side effects are indeed there but two conditions are important to consider , talking about the side effects of long term usage.
1) Osteoporosis.
2) Efficacy of Clopidogrel.
1) Osteoporosis ; those who use omeprazole or other PPIs ,for that matter, have a propensity to get Osteoporosis specially if the use is for a longer duration, and in your condition it is expected that you might have to use it for years, so in order to keep your bones safe from deterioration I would suggest you to start using OTC Calcium supplements having Vitamin D content in them, this will prevent you from long term problems caused by Omeprazole and will keep your bones strong. And in next visit to your doctor you can discuss about high end supplementation if he think you should use it.
2) If there is any heart condition and one is using Clopidogrel then Omeprazole can hinder it's function, but those who are not using clopidogrel do not have to be concerned about this side effect.
Rest of the side effects are rare and non significant.
