Suggest Treatment For Sporotrichosis In The Thumb
Question: What can I do if I think I have sporotrichosis as I was stuck in the thumb by a XXXXXXX thorn and I have a hard time taking any medicine for over a day or two. I have low thyroid and pre-diabetes and I am 61 otherwise in good health. I have developed a small black spot 1/4" from the end of the nail 2 days ago. How do they take a culture of this? what do I do. Can my general d.o. do something?

Sporotrichosis develops slowly.
If you had symptoms just from few days then probability of a common bacterial infection is more.
This can be easily treated with the use of an antibiotic cream like mupirocine and a course of oral antibiotic.
If possible upload a photograph of the involved area.
