Suggest Treatment For Social Anxiety, Delusions And Fear

Posted on Mon, 9 Jan 2017
Question: Please can you diagnose me as best as possible and give advice.

I've put some of the symptoms:

- Find it impossible to go and meet new people (too scared of that)
- Asexual, never had real thoughts about actual sex with someone, just specific fantasies
- Some mild delusions when drinking alcohol
- Find it hard to leave the house
- Won’t walk up my street (But don't mind taking the car)
- Have specific hobby
- Not seeking friendship relationships
- Have one close friend
- Only like to visit my family and friend
- Think people are looking, staring at me
- Worry about the front door being knocked
- I don't worry too much about phoning strangers such as a business
- My mother has issues (OCD + possible other traits of BPD, etc), father has issues too
- I think past family members back some time ago might have been death and dumb.
- I worry and need to find assurance when something is bothering me
- I need 100% answers, nothing less - I struggle with doubts
- I am extremely scared at the idea of moving out of my parents
- I have small bursts of confidence
- I often find it hard to think, feel blank
- Sometimes I just want to be alone
- I work for myself via my small internet business, it’s my real hobby and enjoyment
- I would possibly find it hard to work away from home (although I managed to when younger for a small spell)
- Avoid going to places such as the dentist
- Don’t like to answer the phone, although find texting easy
- Hate social media and avoid getting personal with it

I can answer any other questions you have to help identify what this can be. I’ve read things from social anxiety to autism. So, I’d really like to know what this probably is and how to deal with it (without going to the doctors etc.)

Detailed Answer:
Hello, and thanks for your question.

First, let me say that you need a comprehensive in-person evaluation by a psychiatrist. It is impossible to diagnose someone over the Internet. The process is too complicated. I will say that it appears that anxiety plays a significant role here. When you do talk to a psychiatrist, I'd ask about using a combination of an SSRI medication plus therapy to address your anxiety.

Thanks for the reply. So you don't think it would be related to autism etc? What does it sound like?

Detailed Answer:
It does not sound like autism, it sounds like an anxiety disorder. But again, this is impossible to diagnose over the internet without a comprehensive in-person evaluation.
