Question: I am aged 50 and was a nurse until seven years ago. diagnosed with bi-polar - but have far far WORSE than this. I would like you to research THROUROUGHLY for me this following request please. I am thinking that perhaps in Switzerland or XXXXXXX they might do it...please ask your peers if they have ever heard of a case like this been done anywhere in the world. I am plagued to death with repeating words and I mean repeating...have NO normal thoughts perhaps 1%. mood stabilisers anti depressants anti psychotic drugs etc of varying kinds have not helped. It is a chanting voice but is my own voice not one belonging to someone else. it is incessant and frightening. .there is no escape from it...therapies and distractions don't work. I am in a place called XXXX and am tormented out of my skull...feels worse than going mad or being in hell.am in sheer torment and misery day in day out. am a born again christian who doesn't believe in suicide however I have been brought to brink each day and over the last year have tried to kill myself on many occassions - one a near fatality, was on critical list. I used to smoke just twenty a day but this has gone up as I smoke to get through the hell.
here is my question sir/madam....PLEASE take it seriously. have you ever heard of ANYWHERE in the world of a person with SEVERE mental health problems being put into an induced coma?? I am NOT talking about euthanasia here please note. my request for this is ONE: to stop the torment and let me out of hell and give me peace TWO - that my body and brain would hopefully miraculously get a chance to recover over a 6 month - a year from all chemical psychiatric drugs and nicotine just fluids and nutrition. my case is DESPERATE. I have beautiful supportive family and lots of hobbies but am MENTALLY DISABLED by this horror of a thing and just want to die. no human mind can sustain this onslaught on their mind. it is anything and everything from the minute I wake till I go to sleep - stuff like XXXX
I am in a place called hell of the worst kind on earth. I cannot take any more. my family try to warn me against taking my own life due to devastation it would cause.
please tell me your findings on this - I apppreciate it.....ask your peers if there is ANYWHERE in the world that does this because I cannot take another day of it. - as I said my hope is that with rest in an induced coma and toxin free that my mind would heal and that I would have normal thought processes when I wake up. ive been told that ECT not suitable for me.I have tried EVERY trick under the sun to help myself..doesn't work..we cannot control our thoughts...mine are like an automatic machine gun...with NO let up
many thank
kind regards

Brief Answer:
Consultation

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for sharing what is obviously very difficult and torturous for you to talk about.

First, let me say this. If you are having thoughts about taking your own life, no matter how desperate or hopeless your situation seems to you, as a medical professional I am telling you that we can help you with this, and you need to visit an emergency room immediately. This is not something that can be dealt with as an outpatient. You need to get intensive treatment in a hospital setting. So please go to an emergency room where we can begin to help you.

Now, as to your question. It is clear you are experiencing severely distressing auditory hallucinations that are telling you to kill yourself among other things. Although this is clearly tormenting you, there are medications and other treatments we can use to help. If I were your treating physician, I would have you visit a hospital, and start the medication clozapine. I would also consider ECT, even though other doctors have told you you are not a candidate...I think you actually are a good candidate. These medications/treatments are proven to decrease suicidality and relieve auditory hallucinations.

A medically induced coma as you suggest is not a medical solution for your condition. I understand your desire -- to have a respite and break from the torment. But this is not the way to do it, and neither is suicide. The best way to get relief is to be in a hospital for a short time, getting treatments like clozapine and ECT that can make your symptoms go away.

Visit an emergency room. Do not take your own life. There are treatments out there that can help you.
