Suggest Treatment For Severe Wrist Pain Caused By A Tendon Inflammation

default
Posted on Mon, 18 Jul 2016
Question: Hi I have had wrist pain for approximately 2 months. The pain is most severe in the top of the wrist down from the thumb. I also have pain at the bottom of the wrist on both sides. I have had an xray and MRI. The doctor says nothing stands out to him and wanted to do a few cortisone shots. I am hesitant to get these shots and asked for a prescription of anti-inflammatory medication for 3 to 4 weeks. I was prescribed duexis 800mg ibuprofen/famotidine and my insurance has yet to approve it. Should I be afraid to get the shots I am worried they will adversely effect my wrist in the long run. Please suggest what you feel, the pain is really affecting me at work and in general Thank you

Brief Answer:
Due to tendon inflammation.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The pain in the wrist that you have is likely to be due to inflammation of the tendons. Such pains usually subside with rest, using an elastic wrist brace, avoiding too much use of keypad, hot compress and taking oral anti inflammatory medicines. Cortisone shots are needed only if the pain is long standing and the pain is not responding to the oral medication. Do start with the oral medicine and in case the pain persists then consider getting a steroid shot for relief.
I hope this answers your query.
