default
Posted on Wed, 14 Dec 2016
Question: My brother is a university faculty. He often feels pain in the throat when talk for teaching for an hour or two in a day. But the pain subsides in weekends as there is no class to take. This is continuing since last six months or so. Recently he consulted with the Doctors in Apollo, XXXXXXX Their preliminary observation (through Laryngoscopy) suggested a polyp in the posterior aspect of right vocal cord. They suggested going for a surgery of the polyp. Pl. suggest if there is any alternative to surgery?
In his child hood he was feeling sever pain in the lower region of right neck below the ear. But as he grew, the pain disappeared and now he was quite normal.

Brief Answer:
Surgery is required for a polyp

Detailed Answer:
Hello

If there is a polyp in the vocal cord then surgery is the only option to cure it. Medications will be of no use in this condition

However more importantly he must understand that the most common cause for this condition is voice abuse and therefore he must meet a speech therapist who will teach him the right technique of using his voice. failure to do so will only result in recurrence

In addition I would also suggest that he should drink lots of water and avoid spicy food.

Hope I have answered your question satisfactorily

Take care
