What Does A Sore Throat Indicate After The Epidurals Have Worn Off?

default
Posted on Tue, 24 Oct 2017
Question: In jaunary I was rear ended and pushed into car in front of me. I have had two cervical epidurals and one lumber epidural. Prior to first epidural I felt pain in what seemed to be tendons on the sides of my neck. I also had a very sore throat. Now that the cervical epidurals are wearing off I noticed the sore throat has also returned and nothing helps it feel better or go away. Could the sore throat have been caused by the auto accident

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting the question on this platform.
I have gone through your medical history in detail.

Practically speaking, sore throat does not seem to have occured as a direct result of the accident.

But,a rare possibility of damage to the internal mucosal layer of throat during the accident cannot be entirely ruled out. This damage makes the mucosa more vulnerable for recurrent sore throat.

I would suggest you to consult an ENT specialist and get a laryngoscopy and bronchoscopy done to confirm the amount of mucosal damage.

If the action of cervical epidurals is wearing off, then you can take another shot to get relief from the symptoms.

Anti inflammatory tablets like tramadol, paracetamol with a 5 days course of broad spectrum antibiotic like amoxycillin/clavulanic acid can help.

I hope the answer was useful to you.

Feel free to ask me any doubts that you may have.

Thank you.
Best wishes.
