Suggest Treatment For Severe Soreness In Breasts And Cysts

Posted on Thu, 13 Nov 2014
Question: I have severe soreness in my breasts, and what feel like cysts. I've been on orthotricyclen for 5.5 weeks now, and bled last on October 2nd for several days. My bleeding was a little bit early. This summer I had cystic breasts as well for a couple weeks, but no pregnancy. Could I possibly be pregnant although I've been on the pill?

Brief Answer:
highly unlikely to get pregnant while on pills

Detailed Answer:
Hello

My name is Dr Muhammad Ali Rauf & i will look into your problem.

I have gone through your query and would be happy to assist you. There are a number of causes for breast soreness and on the top of the list is use of contraceptive pills. After you start pills it takes about few months to adjust as your body gets prone to increased levels of hormones from the pills and at the same time naturally releasing from the body. Other causes of breast soreness include stress, pre-menstrual stage, trauma to breast specially during sex.
Secondly, you asked about pregnancy. Although it is highly unlikely to get pregnant while on pills but I would suggest you to perform urinary pregnancy test by getting Pregnancy kit from local pharmacy for your satisfaction. It will confirm if you are pregnant or not OR you can simply visit a gynecologist in hospital near you who will perform Ultrasound Pelvis to observe if there is gestational sac present or not. Ultrasound confirmation will occur if there is at least 3 weeks pregnancy.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it. Wishing you good health !!

Brief Answer:
Could be Mastalgia

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thank you for writing back. Yes if that test is negative then it means you are not pregnant. If you still have doubt then you can visit hospital for ultrasound and or hCG levels which are more specific.
About your second question, as i mentioned earlier that there are causes other than pregnancy which can cause soreness in the breast. They include stress, pre-menstrual stage, trauma to breast specially during sex. Hormonal imbalance may also cause it. I would suggest you to try following home remedy:
> take ibuprofen twice a day for 3 days
> take hot water in a rubber bottle and place it against your chest. It will give soothing effect.
> use oil to massage breast. It also helps in relieving the soreness
> Wear soft garments to avoid strain on breast

Hope it will start improving in 2-3 days. If it does not relieve pain then i would recommend you to visit a gynecologist at hospital who will perform a detailed examination followed by some tests like ultrasound of breast to see if there is any pathology.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.
Wishing you good health !!
