Question: I was swinging a bat today. My left wrist started hurting becoming almost unberable. As the day has gone on I can not move my wrist it is so painful, when I do move it there is a popping sound on the outer side of the wrist. I can not XXXXXXX turn my steering wheel because it is so painful. I came home wrapped it and put ice on it but it is still throbbing. The pain has been so bad a couple of times I have been nauseated. I can't pick anything up because my wrist just gives out. I am a PE teacher need to get this fixed but have no idea what is wrong?

Brief Answer:
Seems to be a wrist sprain

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

Thank you for posting the query.

Hope this message finds you in good health.

From the history it feels that you have severely sprained your wrist. This may have occured due to an awkward position of the wrist while swinging the bat.

Either muscular tendons around the wrist may have got sprained or the ligaments around the wrist may have twisted.

Its less likely that there may be any bony injury.

Continue ice packing for atleast 3 days to reduce the inflammation.
Take anti-inflammatory muscle relaxant tablets , apply compression bandage / wrist immobiliser splint . Wear this splint for as much time as possible during the day time.

Avoid lifting anything heavy by the affected hand.

Such injuries need more amount of rest for faster healing.
This should bring the pain down considerably.

If the pain persists even after taking this treatment for 3 days, you need to consult a orthopedist and get an X-ray / MRI done .

I hope the answer was helpful to you.

If you have any queries / doubts, you can get back to me anytime.

Thanks.

Kind regards.
