Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain In The Hips

Posted on Tue, 7 Mar 2017
Question: THREE DAYS AGO I had sudden, sharp & now ongoing severe hip pain. Seemed to start in buttocks and on the joint. Nothing is seeming to relieve it. It is all down thigh and with any movement. I never fell or bumped that I can recall. No bruising, just severe pain.

Brief Answer:
Can be arthritis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
A sudden severe pain in the hip can be due to an inflammation - arthritis or due to bursitis. if all the movements of the hip joint are alright and only pain is there then it will subside with mild pain killers and a hot compress in next 2-3 days. in case the pain persists then stronger prescription medicines will be needed and an MRI scan is recommended to find the cause.
I hope this answers your query.

can arthritis come on without any mild pain? I can hardly move. Can't bend down or pick up anything without severe pain. What would you recommend for pain meds? Aspirin, etc.?

Brief Answer:
Naproxen will help.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
Arthritis can be associated with a severe pain and swelling. You can take Naproxen or Ibuprofen for the pain after meals. Taking aspirin will not help much in such severe pain.
Hope my answer is helpful.
