Suggest Treatment For Severe Depression While On Cipralex And Diazepam

default
Posted on Wed, 4 Jan 2017
Question: Hi, I have been experiencing cold sensations in my chest radiating through my body....twice in the last fortnight. I saw Paramedics for the same 9 months ago and everything was fine. I am on 10mg Cipralex for depression of 10 years, 3 blood pressure mess and 3 mg Diazepam daily for agoraphobia. My father died 6 months ago, I had cared for him for 11 years and now have so much anxiety about his estate and sadness....I wondered if this could be stress related? I've suffered panic attacks for 30 years which have stopped, could this cold sensation be an alternative form of panic as my medication calms that. Thanks very much for any reply

Hello!

Welcome on HCM!

I carefully passed through your question and would explain that your symptoms seem to be related to anxiety.

I agree with you that these new feelings can be considered an alternative form of panic attacks.

As a cardiologist, I would exclude any cardiac causes as possibly related to this symptomatology.

Coming to this point, I would conclude that your actual therapy is not really effective in controlling anxiety and depression.

That is why, I would recommend increasing to dose of Cipralex to 20mg daily or switch to another antidepressant such as Mirtazapine, Venlafaxine, etc..

I would also recommend to gradually stop taking Diazepam, because it may trigger this symptomatology. This drug should not be used for a long time because it can cause addiction and tolerance (which means that you have not the same effect after some time).

You should discuss with your doctor on the above issues.

Hope you will find this answer helpful!

Wishing all the best,

Dr. Iliri
