Suggest Treatment For Sciatic Pain

default
Posted on Thu, 31 Mar 2016
Question: I have what I am sure is sciatic pain. However, pain meds do not seem to work. I have tried Aleve, Vicodin and they aren't touching it. The pain is so bad, I can't sleep and am now in tears. What do you suggest.

Brief Answer:
You need to have a neurosurgeon review and MRI lumbar spine

Detailed Answer:
Hi! Welcome to health care magic!

First of all, it is sad to know about the problems you have been facing lately. Based on the history you have shared, you have been having multiple quite effective pain medications and nothing has been showing to have permanent benefits. If medical options are depleting, it can be followed further with neurosurgeon for any possible surgical interventions.
Before that MRI lumbar spine maybe needed as to rule out any pressure symptoms over the sciatic nerve right at its origin due to lumbar disc prolapse or slip which can be surgically repaired by a neurosurgeon. Oher options like nerve blocks come later in the course of management if nothing else seems to work but at this stage it's too early for that. Meanwhile keep using the pain medications which you have been prescribed earlier and try to get a review with a physiotherapist for posture related exercises which may have some benefit. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. Regards.

Note: For further queries, consult a joint and bone specialist, an Orthopaedic surgeon. Book a Call now.
