Suggest Treatment For Redness On Face And Allergies

default
Posted on Tue, 2 Aug 2016
Question: I have been struggling with anxiety and allergies for a long time and stomach issues. Suddenly within the last 2 weeks my face gets blotchy and red, hot to the touch and itchy after every time I eat. Same foods I've had in the past that never caused this reaction. I have been trying for over a month and I half to see an allergist. I had a bad reaction to Claritin about a month ago that cause severe anorexia, diarrhea, tremors, anxiety, weakness in my legs and soon. I went to a doctor she said I was depressed and tried to put me on ant depressants. I did not take them but a pharmacist told me to stop taking Claritin and after a week all the symptoms disappeared. Now all of a sudden I have this facial burning thing and a little anxiety. I am getting so frustrated that no one seems to help me and. Seem to be searching the Internet to find answers.

Brief Answer:
Consultation

Detailed Answer:
Hello, and thanks for your question.

I would continue to work with a primary care doctor or dermatologist to investigate the cause of your allergies. Sometimes special blood testing needs to be done to test for immune deficiencies or overactivity that can cause symptoms as you describe. Sometimes, in fact 20-30% of the time, no specific cause for the allergy can be found, and it is termed idiopathic and treated symptomatically with antihistamines. As for the anxiety, and what your doctor seems to think is depression, antidepressants are highly effective and very safe medications. I would encourage you to take it to at least alleviate some of your anxiety.
