Brief Answer:
If oozing then oral antibiotics might be needed- few other advises

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for asking at HCM.

I carefully read your question and understand your concern

In some persons, brimonidine might cause burning sensation and redness with its use. Some patients get it at the time of application or up to 12 hours after application.

Generally, the redness related to brimonidine is related to the medication itself or to the other ingredients in the gel. In both cases applying the gel causes symptoms.

A good news is that generally the burning sensation and the redness tend to fade with discontinuance of the gel.

I would recommend you to stop the gel for a while and allow the skin to recover. Generally, the skin recovers well after discontinuation. Meanwhile, avoid other chemicals on the face and keep it clean.

If the wound is oozing than a secondary infection should be considered also. It would be good to take some oral antibiotics like Cephalexin or Augmentin for 5-7 days to help with skin infection in this case. If you are allergic to penicillin might not be good to use the above antibiotics- in this case Clarithromycin might be a good option (please obtain the necessary prescription for the same from your local physician).

You can use local cold compresses on the areas for a few minutes several times a day, it'll help to reduce some of the burning sensation

Wash hands well after taking care of the face and use personal towels.

You can try something to hydrate the skin and keep it moisturized. Protection from sunlight is also advisable. So avoid sun-exposure and also have a hat on in case you will need to be out. Some good quality sunscreen can help with both the hydration of the skin and the sunscreen.

If the redness does not improve in 2-3 days or gets any worse you will need to talk with your doctor. You should also talk with the doctor who prescribed it on the possibility to reuse the gel in the future or s/he will give you another prescription instead.

Feel free to ask further.

Kind regards
