Suggest Treatment For Recurring Infection On Buttocks

default
Posted on Mon, 17 Nov 2014
Question: I have a recurring infection on my butt. I have seen one Dr. twice about it who gave me steroids and antibiotics. The infection seemed to go away but came back. months after the treatment. THe 3rd time it came back I saw a different Dr. She gave me Bactrim for 10 days. This caused the infection to form a head and pop. It then drained. This has been happening every other week for a couple of months now. When this happens it seems to come to a head very quickly. I will feel it getting sore then the next day it has a head on it. I have popped it several times if it gets too big and drained it. Could this be mrsa? What should I do next?

Hi
Welcome to Healthcaremagic

Dear Mr XXXX

Recurrent abscess in butt area following two possibility needs to be considered and ruled out

1. Pilonidal Sinus; If the site of abscess is in buttock cleft this is more likely
2. Fistula in anus : More likely if the site is near anus

Exact diagnosis will depend on clinical examination. Do send me clinical photograph for further assessment.
