Brief Answer:
further line of treatment and management

Detailed Answer:
Dear
Thanks for contacting Ayurveda with your health concern and cause of dry cough at night particularly happens in inflammation of lung/throat due to smoking/cold or flu [thus initially have a face to face consultation with a chest specialist] to exclude any other possibility of the same.

PS. most cough in general practice are due to common cold but even then was general physician examination carried out in between and was Chest x ray taken to rule out any lung pathology?

1. If after excluding the above simple cause(s), dry cough remains a persistent symptom then one should exclude disease(s) like:
. Asthma, bronchitis, pneumonia, GERD [gastro esophageal reflux disease], heart problem, sinusitis, low iron in blood, use of certain medicines [especially for blood pressure]

2. If the above causes are not the source of infection then following line of management can be adopted:

i. honey is especially suited for dry cough problems whereas lemon is good for wet cough
ii.Make sure to get adequate rest and use a humidifier which will help to keep your nose and chest clear, making easier to breathe.
iii. Avoid: deep fried food ( samosa, pakoda, chips, idli), sour fruits ( mosambi, oranges, green grapes, lemon, shrikhand), protect neck area while riding bike, travelling in bus/car with open window panes, cold water, rice and milk at night.
iv. Take: lukewarm water with honey for gargles,moong/arhar dal, mulethi, laung, old brown rice, chapatti with no oil, papaya, black grapes.
v. have a Physician check up to rule out any underlying/hidden cause with relevant investigations.
vi. Prescription medicines for you are: kas amrit syrup, sitopladi churan, tankan bhasm, khadiradi vati.

PS. If the symptoms continue to get aggravated and cough persists for more than a week consult/call your Doctor.
