Suggest Treatment For Persistent Itching On The Back And Shoulder Blades

default
Posted on Thu, 8 Oct 2015
Question: I started having an itch on my back that wouldn't go away. It was near my left shoulder blade. I could not see anything on my skin to make it itch. It spread around my body to the front and now I have pain. It hurts inside on that side and seems to be projecting from the inside out. It is very uncomfortable. What should I do?

The itching started last Wed. Sept. 16. The pain started on Friday night. I haven't changed my diet or eaten anything different. I have not had this problem in the past. I have hypertension and have been on medication for it for about a month. I am taking lisonopril for it. (10 mg) I started taking an anti-depressant about 18 months ago. It is fluoxetine. (60mg) I have also been taking a thyroid med for about a month. It is a low dose but I cannot remember the name of it right now. There is no rash. I live alone.

Brief Answer:
Most probably urticaria(allergic reaction)

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thank you for getting back with the answers. The symptoms you gave are suggestive of allergic reaction which could be due to a number of causes like food, insect bite, dust, etc. It usually takes few days to resolve. If i were your treating doctor then i would have advised following things:

- Cetirizine one at night for 3 days
- wash/change bedding thoroughly.

Hopefully you will see improvement in 3-4 days BUT if condition remains same or aggravates then you need to visit hospital for further workup.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.
Wishing you good health !!
