Suggest Treatment For Painful Deep Rooted Corn On The Sole Of Foot
Question: My son of 16 yrs old has a painful deep rooted corn in the sole of his foot.. has visited doctor who has electrocotury the top layers and suggested continued long term use of salacylic acid etc.. corn is painful and want to know if laser surgery is really a good option.. understand it might recur and preventive actions like gel pads will have to be taken..

Welcome and thanks for posting your query to the forum.
I can understand your concern for the deep rooted corn in the sole of your son’s foot. After thorough analysis of your query I can make out that your son has the condition medically known as "planter wart".
To explain you simply- Planter wart is a viral infection caused by HPV (human papilloma virus) virus. It is quite a simple virus which is contracted by minor trauma to the skin of planter side of foot. Once the virus gets entered it causes swelling of the cells by which there is formation of a callus or corn type of appearance which causes minor to moderate irritation at the local site.
Later on it may even cause pain during walking as it is present on the pressure site of foot.
If I were your son’s treating dermatologist then would have first preferred for application of a chemical cauterizing agent such as salicylic acid 17% or trichloro-acetic acid at night time for 2 weeks. If the improvement is seen (in terms of decrease in pain and shrinkage of lesion) then would have continued the same for next 4 weeks or till the time there is complete disappearance of the lesion is there. Simultaneously I preferred to do removal of dead skin by paring of the extra tissue.
If the improvement is not seen then the best method is by cauterization with radio-frequency or by laser. Though both of these are good procedures but the only problem is the recurrence in this condition.
In those cases of recurrences I prefer for vaccination at the site. It gives a complete remission of the condition. Talk to your treating doctor for the same who can guide you best.
Ask your son to not try to touch and fiddle with the lesion as can cause further spread. As by touching or any fiddling with the wart causes more spread to the local site as well further new wart formation where-ever we touch it.
Your son's condition will be alright by proper treatment so do not worry about the same.
