Posted on Wed, 16 Aug 2017
Question: I was diagnosed with acute closed angle glaucoma 12 days ago and had subsequent laser surgery, OU. My medical hx includes a dx of optic neuritis in 1993, a dx of relapsing/remitting ms, and recently, cataracts oou. I'm 12 days post-operative and still have extreme light sensitivity OD, where the pupil isdillllllated larger than my left eye. What is the prognosis for this light sensitivity. I have an MD appointment on Friday, and would like to ask intelligent questions.

Brief Answer:
Light sensitivity due to eye attempt to adjust to newly reshaped cornea

Detailed Answer:
Himy dear,

I understand your concern.

Light sensitivity is common after laser surgery of the eye (LASIK). It is due to eyes attempt to adjust to newly reshaped cornea.

Usually it will subside within the first week. But in your case, is lasting longer (already 12 days so far).
However, I still think it might be due to cornea swelling taking into account your personal problems with the eye.

When you see your eye doctor can ask him:
- is there any complication occurred in my eye after laser surgery?
- If not, why my eye is still very sensitive to light ?
- is it from: cornea swelling? decayed light hypersensitivity? or from the procedure itself?
- what eye drops to use?

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have further questions.
