Posted on Fri, 3 Feb 2017
Question: Hi, I am 28 female with no sexual activity since Oct 2016. In XXXXXXX recently around 5 days earlier I felt a pain in my pubic region. When I investigated I found a hard lump near lower portion of my right labia minora. I thought it would go away. But till date it has neither increased thankfully but sadly not has it gone away. The problem is I feel irritation and sometimes sharp sting pain recurring. It is not really visible. But when I forced myself to see it seems like the skin is red scaly kind. It doesn't have any sort of head or puss. I tried to apply coconut oil in the region(I read it somewhere). It has tendered a bit. But still has not gone away. It is creating difficulty to walk or sit. Can you tell me the reason and what kind of problem am I having. Also, precautions so it doesn't happen again. I have also struggled with some boils nearby few days ago.

Brief Answer:
May need biopsy and detailed gynecological examination

Detailed Answer:
Hi! Welcome to healthcaremagic! Thanks for sharing your concerns with us. We will try to help you in best way possible.

First of all, it is sad to know what you had been experiencing lately. Based on the history and images that you have shared, it seems as it can be a subcutaneous infection like boil or pustule and may resolve with a course of antibiotics. Chances of follicles infection is very rare as location is suggestive that this part of labia is devoid of any hair follicles. A glandular cysts also seem less likely as most if the swelling is superficial.

However having said that, it can't be ignored and house hold remedies like you have been trying will not be sufficient and it will need a detailed gynecological review to evaluate for any need of biopsy as such growths should ideally be evaluated for neoplasias. Meanhwile using OTC analgesics like acetaminophen will help.

Wishing you a speedy recovery. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. Regards.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. What medicine and how many times a day can I apply to make it less swollen? Can you suggest me an ointment? Irritation seems to make my daily tasks difficult. I can still live with the pain as I am allergic to painkillers. Pls. Suggest me something as I don't really want to go to a doctor. It is too expensive. I m a student with less resources.

Brief Answer:
You can anti inflammatory drugs and antibiotics but review is mandatory

Detailed Answer:
Hi! Thanks for sharing the detailed feedback. For temporary relief anti inflammatory drugs like acetaminophen or NSAIDS may be needed for few days upto a week and antibiotics like augmentin or cephradine can be started as hit and trial method but exact cause of infection or inflammation will not be confirmed unless local biopsy or cultures or taken and a detailed gynecological examination may also be needed. Also that you have mentioned to be allergic to painkillers so you need to know exact pain killer that you have had been allergic to.

Also that OTC analgesics with history of drug allergies should ideally be avoided. All local ointments like polymyxin specially those used for mucosal or conjunctival use may be applied on this area as usual strength should better be avoided on mucosas and those which are available in combination with lignocaine which can act as local pain killer can be used at the swelling. Keeping it moist with emolients can also help.

I can understand the limitations of resources but for some issues, it's better to be evaluated and shouldn't be ignored. A gynecologist visit should be planned if the issue doesn't resolve with these measures. Wishing you a speedy recovery. Regards.
