Posted on Mon, 20 Mar 2017
Question: my husband did not take his norvasc as prescribed. Now home complaining of severe nauseaus feeling and dizzyness. Related?
he just took two two pills

I don't know the routine of my spouse's compliance. Other Rx for HBP is carvedilol..and flomax..
He's uncertain if it could be food poisoning with a small piece of chicken consumed tonight.
How can I help him? besides a cold compress, fan and a bucket!?

Brief Answer:
Considerations

Detailed Answer:
hello and thank you for sending the question.

It is possible that his dizziness and nausea is related to high blood pressure but there could be something else going on. Another possibility could include a viral illness or food poisoning as you suggested.

I understand he took two tablets of his amlodipine. I recommend that you take his blood pressure as soon as possible. If his blood pressure is very high then I would recommend you take him to the local emergency room as soon as possible.

otherwise, I would recommend that you try gentle hydration with him at home. If the symptoms do not get any better with in the next 1 to 2 hours then it would be reasonable to bring him to the emergency department for evaluation of his symptoms.

again I am not certain that his dizziness and nausea related to his blood pressure.
check his blood pressure at home and try some gentle hydration but if his symptoms are not any better or if he feels worse then it would be a good idea to have him seen in the ER.

Sincerely,

Dr Galamaga
